Christian Science is the law of love, (God), applied to humanity. It is the Science that lies behind the healing works of Christ Jesus, the Biblical prophets and apostles. It was discovered by Mary Baker Eddy and is fully explained in her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
How can the all-encompassing good of Christian Science study help me in my every day activities?
Christian Science is a completely different way of thinking towards things and situations happening in our lives on a day to day basis, and can be used in our upbringing, our education, our relationships with people, our employment/business and commerce, our finances, our health and happiness, our families, our retirement, in fact our whole being.
What is Christian Science Treatment?
It is specific prayer based on the teachings of Christian Science, in which man is understood to be the image and likeness of God. As such it is an entirely mental method designed to bring to light the perfect, harmonious and healthy status of man as a child of God, and thereby eliminate discord and disease. (It does not involve the laying on of hands or any other material means; the patient is not required to be physically present.) Both physical and emotional conditions can be healed.
What sort of Problems can be healed?
Any and every kind of problem can be healed in Christian Science. This treatment is based on the premise that man, (meaning all men and women), is perfect because God is perfect. Since Christian Science starts with what God knows about any situation, no disease is seen as being harder to heal than any other, since all things are possible to God.
Does it matter that I live in the other side of the world from you?
No. Since we are dealing with thoughts, time and space are no limitation to the healing work.
What is required of me, the patient?
First of all, I would ask you to obtain a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and to read and study this book. The healing work is more speedily accomplished if you are receptive to the new ideas you are gaining. It is from the revealing of God's infinite power and love in your consciousness that the healing is revealed. Please endeavour to "realise that divine Love gives, (you), all power over every physical action and condition", (S&H p420). Please strive to make understanding God your first priority, and not to be impressed by material conditions. Fear dissolves as you understand that Divine Love is in control and that you are governed by Love every moment. Finally, please be in touch with me regularly and share any concerns so that we can meet and overcome them together.
What is this book Science and Health and where can I obtain a copy?
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy is the textbook of Christian Science. It contains the complete teachings of Christian Science. It can be purchased from a Christian Science Reading Room, a good bookshop, or online at spirituality.com, or amazon.co.uk. I would be happy to help you obtain a copy.
Can I mix Christian Science with other forms of treatments?
It should be noted that Christian Science is an alternative, (rather than complementary), health care system. The ineffectiveness of mixing Christian Science and medical, (or other), treatment arises from the contradictory standpoints from which these systems are practiced, and is generally as ill-advised as trying to keep one foot on the shore and one foot on board when a boat leaves port. It is best to either stay on shore, or get on the boat! Provided you are legally capable, you have the right to make your own health care choices. It is never my job to advice on health care decisions, and I will never do this. I am not a doctor and cannot make medical diagnosis.
When you request me to work for you, I do so as a Christian Science Practitioner, on the understanding that you have made a free and informed decision to rely solely on God for healing through Christian Science treatment. If this is not the case please speak to me about this, (there are a very few special exceptions when I would consider providing Christian Science treatment simultaneously with medical or other treatment, the important thing is to keep me informed). If you have chosen, or later choose to pursue a medical or alternative route, this does not mean we cannot talk together about God and Christian Science. The ideas in the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy are always accessible and available, no matter what, and I am always happy to discuss these ideas with you.
As a Christian Science Practitioner I obey strictly the rules of confidentiality, and any information you share with me will be held in sacred confidence.
What is a Journal-listed practitioner?
A Christian Science Practitioner is a healer who practises prayer-based healing in accordance with the teachings of Christian Science. A Practitioner is said to be "Journal-listed" if they advertise in the "Christian Science Journal", a monthly magazine published by the Christian Science Publishing Society. To be accepted for advertising in the "Journal", one must have a proven record of healing, and be in the practice full-time.
What is a Christian Science Reading Room?
A Christian Science Reading Room is a spiritual resource centre and specialist bookshop. It is a place where you can find out more about Christian Science. There are Reading Rooms in towns and cities across the world and a complete directory giving locations and opening times can be found in the Christian Science Journal.
What are the charges if any, for the healing services of your Christian Science Practice?
A donation would be requested but it would be left to your discretion as to how much you wish to donate. Giving is a form of gratitude and part of the healing.
