One October day I was with my mum in a coffee shop in Grasmere, Cumbria, having a chat and generally chilling out!
The quiet atmosphere was broken when a woman dashed into the café looking very distressed. She asked the girl behind the counter whether a ring had been handed in – the answer was "no" and after briefly looking around she left, without leaving a contact name and address.
Since we have both been studying Christian Science and had always turned to God for answers and applied to his higher laws, I said "Yes! lets help in this situation".
We did this by quietly stating truths, which had proved to work for us in previous experiences. We claimed that God is very good and has only good for His children. That nothing can be lost in God’s kingdom were we all dwell (even if we do not know it)! As the Bible says, "In Him we live, move, and have our being". Understanding what lies behind this statement is what brings our freedom from what is not good.
When we had finished speaking, I looked across the room and saw a sparkle (despite the fact it was a dull grey day and the room was dark.) I walked over picked up a ring and ran to the door. The woman in question was sheltering from a heavy downpour. I asked her if this was hers and she looked at me in disbelief and explained she had been round all of Grasmere and into every shop. It had been her grandmother’s with lots of good memories attached attached to it. She could never replace it. Then she delved into her purse for a reward and I explained this was unnecessary as I was returning what was rightfully hers anyway.
Later her husband chased after us with a box of Grasmere Gingerbread – very much appreciated and gratefully accepted!
A sparkle in the dim light, a woman still waiting in the doorway, a meeting at the right place and time – all coincidences? I do not believe so – God’s majestic plan is always there, for us, when we turn to Him for guidance.
